Private airline Yeti Airlines has started replacing plastic cups with paper cups. The airline management said that the paper cups were used while the airlines were serving passengers with water and beverages by replacing plastic cups from all their airlines.
Participating in the inauguration of the papercap, UNDP Resident Representative Ayshanie Medagangoda-Labe said the efforts of the airlines were very positive. She said that environment pollution is the main challenge in the world, and she believes that this initiative by the airlines will help in pollution reduction.
Yeti Airlines is the first and only airline to launch a Carbon Neutral campaign in Nepal, as the plastic cups being used on the aircraft have been replaced, said Bimraj Rai, an airline spokesman. He said, Plastic cup replacement on four of the operating airlines has helped the Carbon Neutral campaign a step further.He also added that the use of paper cups instead of plastic will clean the environment and reduce carbon emissions.
Along with the paper cups, eight airlines have used four additional electric cars. This is an additional effort by Yeti Airlines in Carven Neutral's campaign, Rai said. Yeti is working with the United Nations Development Mission (UNDP) to accomplish the Millennium Sustainable Development Goals.
