In a grand celebration, the second Global Sherpa Convention and Global Sherpa Day were successfully concluded in Kathmandu on Sunday. The event was graced by the presence of Dharma Guru Thulshik Yangsi Ngawang Jigme Thinley Kunkeyab Rimpoche, who represented various organizations of the Sherpa community from around the world and Nepal.
Key Highlights:
Unanimous Election: Thundup Sherpa was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the convention, marking a significant moment for the Sherpa community. The elected office bearers include Nima Sherpa (Senior Vice-Chairman), Namgyal Sherpa (Vice-Chairman), Ang Gelmu Sherpa (Vice-Chairman), Aang Jangbu Sherpa (General Secretary), TT Sherpa (Secretary), Nurbu Sherpa (Treasurer), and Dawa Karma Sherpa (Assistant Treasurer).
Oath in Mother Tongue: The oath of office was administered in the mother tongue by former minister Aang Tsheiring Sherpa, who chaired the election commission.
Cultural Showcases: During the Global Sherpa Day, attendees had the opportunity to witness various aspects of Sherpa culture and traditions. This included performances of the traditional Sherpa dance Syabru, Sherpa's original songs and music, and the presentation of traditional dishes.
Historical Visit: An observation visit was organized to a historical human skull (Nangden) that dates back over 400 years. This ancient relic was located in Saelankatti, Bhotechaur Village Municipality.
Sherpa Village Representatives: Representatives from Sherpa Village embarked on an exploration, visiting China's border area, and are scheduled to return to Kathmandu on October 10.
Farewell Program: A farewell program for the Sherpa Village representatives is scheduled for October 11 at the Nepal Sherpa Association building. The program management coordinator, Chhiring Sherpa (Sahil), will provide further details.
This convention and Global Sherpa Day have brought together the Sherpa community from around the world, promoting unity and preserving Sherpa culture and heritage. The event also marked the release of the Sherpa World App, designed to facilitate language learning, cultural exchange, and community cohesion among Sherpas globally.
